The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned of snowfall for Istanbul and announced that the cold will be effective until the beginning of the week. CNN TÜRK Meteorological Advisor Prof. Dr. Şen Orhan Şen said in a live broadcast: “The snowfall will continue until Monday. It will be more intense on Friday in Istanbul. Let’s not use our cars for 3 days. If you don’t have tires winter, don’t go out. Due to the expected heavy rains, all private and public education and training institutions in Istanbul have been closed until March 14. After the weather warning, snowfall started in parts of Istanbul and traffic was blocked by rain. While traffic density reached 72% at 6:20 p.m., it hovered around 44% at 8:10 p.m.
ISTANBUL METEOROLOGY HIGH SNOW WARNING
A heavy snowfall warning came from the Istanbul Meteorological Department.
In the statement made by Meteorology, the following statements were included:
“It is estimated that from Thursday, March 10, 2022, heavy and abundant snowfall, northeastern storms and severe cold weather (6 to 10 degrees below seasonal norms) will be effective throughout the province of ‘Istanbul.
Snowfall is expected to come in the form of heavy snowfall (10-20 cm of snow cover) across the province at regular intervals, strong winds and storms blowing from the north- east in the north of the city and in the strait, and heavy snow showers (snowfall above 20 cm) with sea effect.
IT WILL CONTINUE AT THE START OF THE WEEK
According to the latest assessments, cold weather, snowfall and high winds in Istanbul are expected to continue until early next week.
Care and caution must be taken against negativities such as transportation disruptions, icing and freezing, type, decreased visibility during rainfall, falling trees, poles, and roof theft.
It is important for our citizens and authorities to follow the current weather forecast and warning bulletins that will be issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology.

The main snowfall will come from the northern districts and the European side around 06:00-07:00 Thursday morning. From Sarıyer to Arnavutköy. It will cover all of Istanbul, then the Sea of Marmara, with fast entry. This will not happen in Thrace. In the inner parts of the Western Black Sea, snow can affect transport on the Istanbul – Ankara route. Snowfall will continue through Monday. It will be intermittent. Friday seems a bit too much in Istanbul. There is a lot of snowfall around Düzce, Kocaeli and Bolu. Let’s not use the car for 3 days. If you don’t have winter tires, don’t go out.
On the first day of snowfall, the depth of snow on the ground will not be large, but for tomorrow, even in Istanbul on Friday – Saturday, there will be a thickness of 15 cm. It will be 30 cm thick on the heights. Since the temperature is low, it will not melt on the ground, snow will fall on it. There will be more snowfall in the form of a blizzard. Along with the wind, it is also important for health. Do not go outside in this cold weather.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS IN ISTANBUL
The Istanbul Governor’s Office has taken further action against the heavy snowfall expected across the city. All private and public education and training institutions in Istanbul have been suspended until March 14. In addition, it has been decided that civil servants, workers and other staff will be on administrative leave on Thursday March 10, 2022, with the exception of security, health and transport services.
The following statement was issued by the Governor’s office:
“According to data received from the Regional Directorate of Meteorology at 10:30 a.m. today, an ORANGE alarm has been issued for Istanbul on Thursday, March 10, 2022 (tomorrow). Due to forecast reports and expected adverse weather conditions;
From Thursday March 10, 2022; All public and private basic and secondary education establishments and public education centers, maturation institutes, private education courses, car driving courses, miscellaneous courses, education centers special education and reintegration, support and training courses in public schools and complementary courses in private schools,
Including Quran lessons and main courses between 4 and 6 years old; to suspend educational activities in all educational establishments until Monday, March 14, 2022,
To suspend activities until Monday, March 14, 2022 in private nursery schools, day care centers and children’s clubs affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services,
In accordance with consultations with our university rectors in Istanbul, higher education in our province will be suspended until Monday, March 14, 2022,

LATEST TRAFFIC SITUATION
The expected snowfall in Istanbul has started in many neighborhoods. With the onset of snowfall, the density of traffic in the city is also felt. The location of the TEM Mahmutbey highway towards Edirne became one of the points where the traffic progressed step by step. According to the IMM Traffic Density map, the density reached 72% at 6:20 p.m., while it hovered around 44% at 8:00 p.m.
