As part of the program held at the Üsküdar Altunizade Culture and Congress Center, prizes were awarded to successful scholars at university, to students of the University of Health Sciences who passed in sports competitions and to health journalists. During the award ceremony, 8 health journalists from different institutions were awarded with their news. The awards were presented to their owners by Minister Varank. Speaking at the program, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said, “It would not be a mistake if we call the School of Medicine the spirit of modern Turkish medicine. Our medical heritage, which came from Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd, was institutionalized with the School of Medicine. Since its foundation, this valuable school has pioneered the history of Turkish medicine with its experience. Thanks to the doctors, surgeons and pharmacists he trained, the foundations of many health facilities in Anatolia were laid. Today, this legacy continues with the University of Health Sciences. The University of Health Sciences is an international school in the field of health with its nearly 3,000 professors, more than 20,000 students and dozens of faculties. Its services now extend to Central Asia and Africa,” he said.
“WE WILL PASS THE TURKISH CITIZEN IN SPACE THROUGH TESTS”
Minister Varank said: “I forgot to say it in the pulpit. space and aviation, medical studies are also very important. In the near future, we will make an announcement to select the people Turkey will send to space. The center created by the University of Health Sciences will also be very useful to us. People who go into space must have special conditions. One of the first users of this center will be our ministry in the near future. “We will test the Turkish citizen who will go into space,” he said.
“THANKS TO THE HEALTH INSURANCE WE PROVIDE, WE HAVE GIVEN THE BEST EXAMPLE OF BEING A SOCIAL STATE”
Minister Varank said, “We have given the best example of a social state through the health infrastructure we have put in place since 2002 and the health insurance we have provided,” Minister Varank said. On the one hand, while setting up innovative structures with city hospitals, we have trained the most qualified health personnel in our country, from doctors to nurses. We have increased the total number of health workers from 295,000 to 1 million.
We know that the quality of our healthcare system is directly proportional to the well-being and quality of life of healthcare professionals. In this context, we did not hesitate to take measures to improve the standard of living of our healthcare professionals when necessary. Thanks to all these advances, we have built a high-tech health ecosystem that is above all respectful of people. If we say that the world’s and Turkey’s health system gave the toughest test during the pandemic period, we probably won’t be wrong.
Yet we have seen together how developed countries failed in times of pandemic, so to speak, they almost fell into a coma and could no longer get up from the operating table. Turkey, on the other hand, has successfully passed this test with its health ecosystem, from city hospitals to domestic vaccines, from doctors to technicians. So much so that Turkey’s fight against Covid-19 has been held up as an example around the world. In this context, the pandemic has once again shown how precise measures we have taken in the field of health.
“WE HAVE PREPARED THE ROADMAP OF SMART LIFE AND HEALTH, PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGIES”
Stating that there are significant breakthroughs in processes such as diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment and preventive health in healthcare with developments in technology, Minister Varank said, “We are developing our strategies from artificial intelligence to biotechnology in order to keep supporting this change and protect our competitiveness.
As a ministry, we have prepared the “Smart Life and Health, Products and Technologies Roadmap”. With this roadmap, which we will announce soon, we will accelerate the domestic and national production of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and health information technologies, which we have determined as strategic areas. As a ministry, we will lead Turkey’s transformation in health with many projects ranging from biotechnology production to the establishment of the National Library of Pharmaceutical Molecules.
‘WE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU WITH OUR SUPPORT WHEN YOU FOLLOW THE INFORMATION’
“My request to our young people is this: never stop dreaming. Remember that dreaming is half of success,” Minister Varank said, “and never delay your work. Please stay away from vicious arguments that will lead you astray. Always turn to science and run after knowledge.
You will see that as long as you pursue knowledge, we will always be at your side with our support. And of course trust yourself. If you work with confidence, I believe that New Aziz Sancars, Özlem Türeci, Uğur Şahin will come out of this room among you. The existence of young people like you is the greatest guarantee of a brilliant Turkey of the future”.
