Cemal Kalyoncu made statements on Kalyon Holding’s energy investments at Istanbul IGA Airport. Touching on the new partnership structure in İGA, Kalyoncu briefed on the process of winning the Istanbul Airport tender.
“WE MADE 8 BILLION EUROS OF INVESTMENT WITH CREDIT AND EQUITY”
Cemal Kalyoncu, “Before the auction of the call for tenders, the French and the Germans were ahead of us. During the auction broadcast live on television, the consortium we created won the best bid. As İGA, we have made an investment of 10 billion 250 million euros, with 8 billion euros in loans and shares. The rest will be implemented as needed. We can say that we have built the largest, healthiest and most functional airport in the world. Currently, Istanbul İGA Airport ranks first in Europe and second in the world in terms of passenger numbers. Airport; It also stands out for its architectural features and design. The man I met in India, and the man I spoke to in America and Africa, talks about IGA. When the number of airport passengers reaches 120 million, 4.5% of gross domestic product will be produced here. There is such an economy,” he said.
“On the other hand, the airport has given us a lot,” Kalyoncu said.We have many people coming and going for cooperation from Europe, Africa and Asia. Our objective is to now have very different activities on three continents in terms of renewable energies and airports. We have significant work in airport construction and operation and renewable energy on three continents. We will continue our investments in aviation and energy over the rest of the year. On the other hand, our work on electric charging stations, electricity storage batteries and wind power is continuing.‘ he said.
“THEY FIXED IT NOW”
Highlighting the errors made in the report on the companies that won the most public tenders from the World Bank, Kalyoncu said: “They corrected this report at the moment. They also included us among the contractors who did the most work. to the question “How did we get here”, we saw that they had made the following calculation: the investment value of Istanbul airport is 10 billion 250 million euros, we will pay 26 billion euros to the State in 25 years. They show the money we will pay the state out of pocket as the offer we received from the state, and write the value of the airport offer as -26 +10.25 billion euros – 37 billion euros. “They have now corrected it. They wrote that we received a tender for 37 billion euros per company. The truth is that we are spending 10 billion 250 million euros there without receiving a penny of the state. We pay 26 billion euros in rent to the state in 25 years. We pay our rent every year,” he said.
“WE TRY TO USE TECHNOLOGY AT EVERY POINT”
Saying, “As Kalyon Holding, we have been working for Turkey’s sustainable growth for 78 years,” Kalyoncu said, “Our goal is to build a better future for society, the environment and future generations. To do this, projects that benefit our country in the social field as well as in the economic and commercial fields are implemented. As a Holding, we put sustainability, renewable energy production, education, service to people, education of people, protection of heritage and historical and cultural values at the center of our company values. Stating that he has important works in the fields of culture, art and education, Kalyon Holding’s Chairman of the Board, Cemal Kalyoncu, continued, “As Kalyon Holding, in addition to our business responsibilities, we also protect our social responsibilities through the Kalyon Foundation and Kalyon Culture We pass on our historical and cultural heritage to future generations We also undertake important initiatives to pass on We have planted nearly 5 million young trees. I think we may be the only company that does reforestation of this size. In Istanbul, the Kalyon Foundation works on refug es for animals in partnership with the municipalities. We restore some historical monuments to protect the historical texture of Istanbul. We are restoring the historic mosque in Vaniköy. correctly restored The project if is part of it. We have a cultural and artistic center called Kalyon Culture in Nişantaşı. We organize art and exhibition events in this center. Gaziantep Education and Service Foundation, our family foundation, also provides important services. We established Hasan Kalyoncu University, the first foundation university in the East and South East, in Gaziantep. The university has 8 faculties, 32 departments, 1 vocational high school and 1 foreign language high school, where very important studies on technology and R&D are carried out and with nearly 10,000 students. The employment rate of graduates from the university, which was opened in 2010 and has 13,000 graduates, is also very high, and we have been providing serious employment to the Holding since university.”
“OUR FACTORY IS 85 PERCENT DOMESTIC”
Kalyoncu, who also briefed on the energy work, said, “We have diversified our energy investments since 1991 and focused on renewable and environmentally friendly energy alternatives. We believe that solar technologies, generating energy from the sun, are the most We have established the factory in Ankara. We increased it to 1,250 megawatts. It is working at full capacity. It produces the best panels in the world with state-of-the-art technology. A single plant in the world produces four of them under one roof, that is, ingots (ingot), wafers (wafers), cells (cell) and finally, the production of panels (modules), in short, the whole piece, from stone to panel, can be done in our Kalyon PV plant, which we have set up. Our factory, which functions as a technology base, has a local rate of 85%. It employs 95% Turkish engineers. Many young engineers also participate. Some of them are from Hasan Kalyoncu. University, and at least 100 Turkish We have created an R&D center where scientists work,” he said.
“IT WILL PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO 2 MILLION PEOPLE PER YEAR”
Cemal Kalyoncu said, “We expect the completion of the Karapınar Solar Power Plant (GES) we established in Konya this year,” said Cemal Kalyoncu, “The 1,350 megawatt part will be completed. We currently produce 700 megawatts per day. . It will be finished in December. We will start producing 1,350 megawatts in December. It will provide electricity for 2 million people per year. In other words, Konya’s electricity will be supplied by a single power plant. This plant is one of the three largest power plants in the world, it is already the largest in Europe with the capacity of 700 MW that it has reached today. My focus and all my thoughts about the future are most recent. We built the power plant on an area of 20 million square meters, which has now become a wasteland and is useless, in an area the size of 2,000 600 football fields. Here, 3.5 million panels will be used and 2 million tons of carbon emissions will be avoided per year. On the other hand, when we consider our plant and our power plant together, when current natural gas prices are taken into account, we have 600 miles of our country. It will provide a currency substitution of ten dollars. In other words, an additional $600 million of foreign currency will not leave our country. He will be satisfied with the panels we produce and the clean energy we produce. We are also carrying out major renewable energy studies at Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep. We aim to do a lot in the area of renewable and clean energy,” he said.
“OUR GOAL IS TO PRODUCE WIND TURBINES IN TURKEY”
Expressing that they have achieved a high rate of domesticity in solar panels, Kalyoncu said, “Currently, we are producing solar energy panels in Turkey with 85% locality. Our goal is to produce wind turbines in Turkey. there is currently no production. Today, wind turbine towers, blades and generators can be produced in Turkey. We aim to produce wind turbines in our country with a locality of more than 65 percent. We are working on how to take advantage of wind power. We are working on our 1,000 megawatt power plant project. We plan to start it next year. We have a large and experienced staff and technical team involved in our work.” We continue to work for our country. This will be a huge gain for our country. We will be a company that exports high technology, not imports,” he said.
