Introducing the Audi Urbansphere concept: here’s its design and features

German car giant Audi has unveiled the Urbansphere concept, the third and final of its “sphere” themed concepts. Attract attention with its minivan-style silhouette Audi Urbansphere The concept has a futuristic design and an electric powertrain.

What does Audi Urbansphere offer with its features?

Following last year’s Skysphere and Grandsphere concepts, Urbansphere was developed in collaboration with the company’s design studios in China and Germany. It is said that the concept in question was developed for China’s high-traffic megacities, but is also suitable for other crowded cities around the world.

The Audi Urbansphere, designed to offer passengers a lounge experience even in traffic, shows this with its dimensions. Because we see that the vehicle has a length of 5.5 meters, a width of 2 meters, a height of 1.78 meters and a wheelbase of 3.4 meters. With these dimensions, we can say that it is even longer than most large SUVs.

In the design, large 24-inch wheels, rear doors opening backwards, digital zones in the front and rear stand out. These digital areas are equipped with pixel-style LED lighting. Through these areas where different colors and shapes can be created, communication with other nearby road users can be established. For example, when the vehicle accelerates, turns, or gives a warning, warning lights of different colors appear in these areas.

Interior design

Indoors, we understand better that Urbansphere is a concept study. Thanks to the dimensions of the vehicle, a very spacious living space is offered here. To provide the most comfortable experience possible, individual seats are included in a two-row layout. The seats have a relaxation and entertainment mode. This enables features such as various degrees of tilt and swivel in the seats, leg support extensions and speakers in the headrests to create personalized sound zones.

As in previous concepts, the steering wheel, dashboard and pedals disappear when the vehicle is in autonomous mode. Audi aims to equip production models with Level 4 autonomous driving by 2025. The Urbansphere concept is here to inform the company’s future models.

There are many features in the vehicle that allow passengers to access digital services and infotainment features. Projected images on the console, screens on the front seatbacks, VR glasses and a transparent OLED screen for the rear passengers are some of these features. There are various control buttons on the driver’s door and these controls can also be operated with hand gestures or voice commands. Urbansphere also has a stress detection feature through face scanning and voice analysis. This way, he can make various relaxation suggestions.

Motor, battery, range and charging

Although still a concept, Audi Urbansphere uses the EPI platform developed by Audi and Porsche for electric vehicles. Two electric motors producing a total of 396 horsepower and 690 Nm of torque are used in the vehicle. The vehicle, which has four-wheel drive thanks to its two electric motors, can momentarily deactivate any of the electric motors to improve fuel efficiency.

The 120 kWh battery positioned parallel to the ground aims to offer a range of 750 kilometers compared to WLTP. The 800V electrical architecture and support for fast charging up to 270kW is said to deliver a range of 300 kilometers on a 10-minute charge and 5% to 80% occupancy on one charge. 25 minutes. In the name of comfort, the vehicle also has features like adaptive air suspension and rear axle steering system.
