The process of determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns nearly 7 million employees and indirectly all citizens, continues on 1 December. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its second meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m., hosted by Türk-İş.
Commenting on the increase in the minimum wage in CNN Türk’s live broadcast, Prof. Dr. Sefer Şener pointed out that the expectations of society are at the level of 4,000 lira. Şener used the following statements in the rest of his speech:
“INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE EXPECTATIONS”
The minimum wage affects food inflation. Housing prices and rents are at the 24% level. On the other hand, transport and energy are at the level of 23 percent. Inflation is at this level, but you have to look at the increase in food, housing, energy and transport, which profoundly affect the minimum wage. The foresight on the side of the workers also goes in this direction.
After these numbers, minimum wage expectations have risen. These are the main expenditure items of minimum wage earners. The expectation of the public and the expectations of the employees is an increase of more than 4 thousand lire. The cost of achieving a net of 4,000 lira for the employer is 6,000 lira. Society’s expectations are high, but if the tax burden on employers, SGK premium shares and some of the unemployment benefits can be covered by the state, we may see a salary of 4,000 lira.
“THE WORKERS’ PARTY ACCEPTS IT”
The employer and the government agree, and the workers’ side has also accepted it. This development of inflation, on the one hand, is due to the fact that producer prices reached the level of 54.62%, and this will be reflected in the CPI over the next few months. This is a reflection of global energy prices.
“THE SECOND MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW”
From what I can see in the public, the expectation of the minimum wage has increased to a net level of 4,000 lira.
The employer party also agrees with this. However, it is obvious that the cost for the employer also increases. I don’t think informal work and layoffs will increase.
The second meeting will take place tomorrow. The company’s hopes began to rise even higher. It is absolutely necessary to meet these expectations with the minimum wage. The company has been put on hold by both the government and the employer. The speeches confirm this, and the high expectations of society must be met by employers and government.
Inflationary environments place the greatest burden on employees. Since assets appreciate in an inflationary environment, those earning a fixed rate are affected here. When we count 13 million 800 thousand people with their families so that employees are not affected, they represent 60% of society, that is to say that this corresponds to 52 million. Considering that the population is 83 million, there is a paid wage that concerns a large part of society.
HERE ARE THE MINIMUM WAGE FIGURES THAT APPEAR IN THE SURVEY
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin said last week that work on the minimum wage was continuing and said: “Representatives of labor and management unions said: ‘Let’s not extend this work this year , let’s figure it out as soon as possible. We agree,” he said.
“EMPLOYERS DEMAND THAT THE MINIMUM WAGE BE BETWEEN 3,500 AND 3,750 TL”
In the survey, Minister Bilgin said they had asked employers what the minimum wage should be and said: ‘We found that 33.9% of the rate collected here are of the opinion that the minimum wage should be between 3,000,500 and 3,000,750 TL. The rate of those with 3,750 and 4,000 lire is 13%, and we see the group of employers between 3,251 and 3,500 lire in second place. In an assessment of how the minimum wage will affect living conditions, the rate of those who say it will affect them well and positively is 42.2%. These figures are an expression of optimism. It shows that increasing the minimum wage is in line with expectations that it will positively affect life.
“WORKERS WANT 4 THOUSAND LIRE”
Stating that the second part of the research, which covers workers, was carried out among 2,000 workers working in micro, small, medium and large companies, Minister Bilgin said: “13% of them said that ‘they were also working in a job other than the minimum wage they receive. When we ask what are the minimum wage expectations, we see that the blended rate is between 37.3%, 3,000,751 and 4,000. We see that the second rate is 21% between 4,500 and 5,000 , and the other 13%. When asked if there is anyone else in your family who works for minimum wage, we see that 61% of them said no. Therefore, it is also interesting in that it shows that about 40% of them are not the only wage earners in the family. Our workers also believe that an increase in the minimum wage will stimulate the economy.
NET MINIMUM SALARY 2 THOUSAND 825 LIRA!
The minimum wage is currently applied at 3,577 lira and 50 kuruş per month for a single worker, and at 2,000,825 lira and 90 kuruş net after taxes and deductions.
For apartment workers, unlike normal workers, since income taxes and stamps are not deducted, 3,000 lira net is calculated as 87 cents.
The total cost of the minimum wage for the employer is 4 thousand 203 lire and 56 cents for a worker. Of this amount, 3 thousand 577 lire 50 cents gross minimum wage, 554 lire 51 cents social security premium, 71 lire 55 cents employer unemployment insurance fund.
