The Capsule technology platform, which was established as part of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, at the Zindankale campus. Speaking at the opening, Minister Varank pointed out that the Capsule Technology Platform model is an innovative model. Noting that under the leadership of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, tech companies will perform three main tasks for young people on the platform, Minister Varank said, “First, we are hosting the world’s largest tech competition, TEKNOFEST. In this framework, our young people will be able to come here and prepare for TEKNOFEST competitions and scientific competitions as much as their hearts allow. All material parts will be handled by our metropolitan municipality and related institutions. In this sense, it will provide a workshop opportunity to host TEKNOFEST competitions. Second, by setting up different laboratories here, it will provide an infrastructure for our young people and entrepreneurs who want to work in this area, whether it’s smart cities or financial technologies. In this sense, it will serve the youth of Konya. Third, when you gather so much knowledge, those results have to have monetary value, they have to create added value. Here, at the same time, support and advice will be provided to our young people for the marketing of all these initiatives.
“It’s important for Konya to succeed in this business”
Varank, who thanked the Konya Metropolitan Municipality for this innovative initiative, said, “We already call Konya ‘My City’. Therefore, it is really important that our city, Konya, succeeds in this work and brings together so many actors. The Ministry of Industry and Technology is a ministry that has activities in all these areas. I offer you two options; We can make it an incubator city of a technopark. When there is an urban incubator, many different supports and tax benefits can be enjoyed. Or if you wish, KOSGEB has technology centers. Here too, you can benefit from tax advantages by providing support for staff, support for activities, support for infrastructure. As a ministry, we will provide this support to this platform by meeting with stakeholders and choosing from the two choices you want. It will remain open 24 hours a day and will be a living space where young people can come and spend their lives. Kenya can do it. This platform will also serve as an example for Turkey. I wish that the Capsule Technology Platform is auspicious and particularly beneficial for our young people.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay also said he was working with young people to contribute to the national tech movement and make Konya a tech base, and thanked Minister Varank for his support.
Afterwards, Minister Varank and members of the protocol, who took exams at the campus of the Capsule Zindankale technology platform, whose ribbon was cut, spoke with university students. Created by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey’s first municipality-backed technology platform, Capsule Technology Platform, works with student teams to participate in many national and international competitions, especially TEKNOFEST. In 2021, when it was established, 831 different technology products were developed on the Capsule technology platform, which supported a total of 40 teams in 7 different fields in technology competitions. At TEKNOFEST, where 22 teams were finalists, one of the teams under the platform managed to place in the European Rover Challenge. The Capsule Technology Platform supports 100 competition teams in 2022.
