Gergerlioğlu: We will bring the law to this country

The Kazım Ekinci Human Rights Center of the Urfa Bar Association gave an interview on “Recent Rights Violations”. Kocaeli MP from Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Ferit Şenyaşar, who was part of Justice Watch in front of Urfa Courthouse for 410 days, components of Labor Platform and Urfa democracy and many human rights activists participated in the interview held at the Tahir Elçi conference room in the service building of the Bar Association.

HDP MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, who spoke during the interview, said there is no human right in Turkey and he is fighting against it. Gergerlioğlu said that the petitions submitted to the Parliamentary Human Rights Inquiry Commission regarding the tortured persons had not been addressed and said: “There are allegations of torture, we want to report the results. At the time, the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission raided the police station and investigated the human rights abuses that had occurred there. But now the commission, which is under the control of the AKP-MHP, is not investigating anything. I will investigate alone, but the commission does not come to investigate. 84% of the questions we ask have no answers. Even if they do research, they give answers or distort information to be forgotten. Cases therefore lead to impunity. We also insist on the disclosure of the reports of international institutions. The reports of the CPT Turkey are published late. Some reports are announced late, some reports are still unexplained. In 2016, the CPT’s report has not yet been published. International reports confirm what we say,” he said.

“DO WE HAVE TO STOP THIS?”

Stating that reports prepared by Ankara, Diyarbakır, Urfa and Van bar associations in the field of human rights were covered, Gergerlioğlu said: “These reports were prepared despite the obstacles, but we want to hide them. We live in a state where lawyers are subject to rights violations. People are forbidden to go abroad. Because people tweet, their homes are raided and they are arrested. Doctors flock abroad. We are all losers because of the despotic power of the administration. Can’t we stop this? Only politics will put an end to it? Will the media and NGOs say stop? There is no freedom of expression, thousands of sites are blocked. Looting and looting have been committed everywhere by administrators, but they are all covered up. There is no science in university universities, there are people in universities who submit to power. All scientists have been purged,” he said.

“ONE DAY THE LAW WILL COME TO THIS COUNTRY”

Gergerlioğlu said, “Our strong point is that we are right” and continued his remarks as follows: We will talk about the rights violations experienced everywhere. In the conscience of society, they are doomed. Human rights defenders are prosecuted on inconsistent grounds. İHD co-chairman Öztürk Türkdoğan was prosecuted and acquitted for telling the truth. It is a silent operation. By silencing human rights defenders, they want to conceal their rights violations. I was punished for sharing a news item that is still on the air. Even though I was a deputy, the trial continued and the sentence against me became final. As in thousands of cases, I went to prison innocently. One day the law will come to this country, we will bring it, there is no other way. We will continue to raise the issue of human rights violations.

RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN PRISONS

Referring to rights violations in prisons, Gergerlioğlu said, “We made it known that strip searching is torture, and they started explaining the victims. Although the regulations have changed, there is still the torture of strip search. People are beaten, disciplined and executed because they oppose it. Sick prisoners die in prison. It is a crime against humanity. The injustices continue in the Kurdish question. For this reason, the policy is blocked and the problems do not find an answer. There are attacks against our party, which is taking the most concrete steps to solve this problem. In this way, this problem cannot be solved. The reason the problem remains unresolved is due to government inaction. People are happiest where they have the right to education in their mother tongue. In places where the Kurdish question is lived, the question is brought to the fore using the question as an excuse,” he said.
