With this decision, the government tells the ECHR “I deceived you”

CHP Eskişehir Deputy Utku Cakirozer Sentenced to prison in the Gezi trialn Osman Kavala, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman, Hakan Altınay’I visited Silivri prison. Kavala, “The government told the ECHR: ‘I created files to distract you. I cheated on you. Now I don’t know your decisions,” he says with that decision. Unfortunately, it is Turkey’s prestige that ultimately suffers.” mentioned.

Çakırözer visited Osman Kavala, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman and Hakan Altınay, who were convicted in the Gezi trial and are in Silivri prison. Giving a statement to the press regarding the meetings he held after the visit, Çakırözer said the detainees said:

Osman Kavala: In the end, it is Turkey’s prestige that suffers

I was surprised by the sentence handed down by the court. It’s not my fault, but I didn’t expect them to leave without penalty after depositing so much. But I was surprised at such an aggravated life sentence. But what surprises me the most is that 7 respected names with me have been sentenced to 18 years in prison. Each of these names are law-abiding, people who have worked for the good of our country for decades. It is very sad that such cruelty is inflicted on them.

These court decisions are in fact an insult to the ECHR, of which we are a member. I was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the case that Turkey told the ECHR “he was acquitted on this case”. The government told the ECHR: “I created files to entertain you. I cheated on you. Now I don’t know your decisions,” he says with that decision. Unfortunately, it is Turkey’s prestige that ultimately suffers.

Hakan Altınay: This is not the decision of an impartial and fair court, it is pure nonsense!

This is not the decision of an impartial and fair tribunal, this is pure bullshit! The damage this decision has caused to us and our families is obvious. A decision that overrides law, justice and conscience like a bulldozer. But there is also the great damage it caused to Turkey’s reputation. Each of the names who are friends of Turkey in the West and who fight for the positive image of Turkey without expecting anything in return, have now turned their backs on Turkey because of these and similar unfair practices. Who I’m talking about Marti Ahtisaari, Thorbjorn Jagland. People are very upset about that. The prosecutor provided evidence in the letter I wrote at the time to the European Union. What did we say: “Oh, don’t stop Turkey’s European process by using this negativities against the Gezi resistance as an excuse”. These remarks put Turkey in a difficult situation. Now, I claim, which one hurts Turkey the most? Is this my letter? Or is it this unjust judgment that condemns us? We must not play with the conscience of society so much. Not everyone has to love everyone, but everyone must respect each other’s rights and laws. There must be a legal guarantee in the country.

Tayfun Kahraman: We will oppose this persecution inflicted on society in our own person.

We will rise up against this oppression inflicted on society in our person. Even if they want to keep us in isolation, we will continue to defend Gezi with our dignity and pride. We would like to thank Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who showed great solidarity by visiting our house, and all the politicians who did not remain silent in the face of this injustice. Our mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu strongly supports us. Thank you.”

Can Atalay: These decisions can do nothing to the spirit of Gezi, which they want to silence and scare.

These decisions can do nothing to the spirit of Gezi, which they want to silence and scare. We will fight together, we will overcome together. This country cannot fit into the straitjacket it wants to wear. We will defend the republic. We will democratize it. In its 100th year, the democratic republic will be a gift to each other like 84 million. We are happy that CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, IYI party leader Meral Akşener and other leaders oppose this anarchy and support Gezi.

In a statement after his visit, Çakırözer said millions of people used their constitutional right to protest during Gezi, and said the sentences handed down were grossly illegal. Pointing out that there is an injustice that hurts the conscience, Çakırözer said: “Osman Kavala is entering a new prison vacation period. His 9th party in prison. With him, the Gezi suspects will spend this vacation away from their families in Silivri and Bakırköy prisons, where they are being unjustly and illegally detained. This injustice must be eliminated as soon as possible and these innocent people must regain their freedom as soon as possible.mentioned. (PHOENIX)
