Latest news! “If PH is not treated in time with the right methods, it can lead to death”

As part of World Pulmonary Hypertension Day on May 5, various events were held simultaneously in more than 80 countries around the world to raise awareness of this danger. The Turkish Society of Cardiology (TKD) shone a light on awareness by emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and correct treatment methods, with the event held in Istanbul with the participation of writer Can Yılmaz and by actress Zafer Algöz. Head of the working group on pulmonary and congenital vascular heart disease in adults TKD Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akbulut said: “Unfortunately, heart failure that develops in patients who do not apply a timely and correct treatment strategy leads to death. However, today, drugs and treatment methods that can significantly improve the quality of life and survival of patients with PH are producing very promising results.”

Cardiac and Pulmonary Circulatory Disorder Pulmonary hypertension (PH) poses a danger to people of all ages and can have fatal consequences if left untreated. Every year, as part of World Pulmonary Hypertension Day on May 5, various events are held simultaneously in many countries to raise awareness of this disease. The Turkish Society of Cardiology (TKD) has also drawn attention to the dangers of the disease, while discussing all issues about Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) with the awareness event titled “6 minutes at the cost of life”.

PH, the incidence of which is increasing day by day around the world, can affect people of all age groups as a serious heart and lung disease. Stating that events are being organized simultaneously by associations and non-governmental organizations in more than 80 countries around the world within the framework of World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, the chairman of the working group on pulmonary and congenital vascular heart disease of the adult, Professor Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akbulut said, “As Turkish Cardiology Society, we have carried out activities to raise awareness about PH, a serious heart-lung circulation disorder. We experienced simple but effective methods of diagnosing the disease with the “6 Minutes to the Price of Life Awareness Event”. “We discussed PH issues with writer Can Yılmaz and actress Zafer Algoz. At the same time, we focused on raising the level of social awareness with the awareness film we prepared at the expense of life.”

ATTENTION EXPECTED TO EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND CORRECT TREATMENT METHODS

Stating that they aim to raise the level of social awareness by emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and correct treatment methods in the treatment of PD, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akbulut, “The diseases that cause PH or the clinical disorders caused by these diseases cause hardening, damage, narrowing or complete obstruction of the pulmonary blood vessels over time, causing a significant pressure load on the heart. The heart has to overcome this obstacle in front of it. It gets tired over time because it has to work harder than usual. Heart failure unfortunately leads to death in patients who do not apply a strategy of timely and correct treatment. However, today, drugs and treatment methods that can significantly improve the quality of life and survival of PH patients are showing very promising results. That is why early diagnosis and correct treatment methods are of great importance,” he said.

THERE ARE 5 DIFFERENT FORMS OF PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

Noting that the diseases that cause pulmonary hypertension pave the way for five clinically different forms of pulmonary hypertension, the lead professor of the Pulmonary and Congenital Vascular Heart Diseases in Adults Working Group. Dr. Akbulut summed up the problem with the following words:

“The first form of pulmonary hypertension, in which the pulmonary arteries are directly affected or diseased, is called pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is thought to develop as a result of viral or parasitic infections. The 2nd form of Pulmonary hypertension is left heart disease, the 3rd form is lung disease and hypoxia, the 4th form is chronic thromboembolic events or non-coagulant pulmonary vascular occlusions, which is the condition of occlusion of pulmonary vessels with a clot , it is believed to have developed as a result of the factor(s) whose mechanism we have not yet fully explained.”

WE AIM TO ELIMINATE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL BARRIERS

Stating that early diagnosis and correct treatment methods offer the possibility of a longer and quality life, Prof. Dr. Akbulut said, “Our association has carried out many successful projects that take care of public health since its inception. We focus on breaking down the physical and social barriers created by Parkinson’s disease, which is caused by many completely different diseases, in patients’ lives, to the fullest. We plan to increase it even more,” he said.
