Cryptos: the “bridges” between blockchains, a new target favored by hackers

Tamper-proof, tamper-proof, immutable … While blockchain technology has many advantages over centralized servers, the blockchain ecosystem is vulnerable to certain hacks, and above all one in particular: the attack through “bridges” . According to the specialized company Chainanalysis, 2 billion dollars have been stolen via bridge since the beginning of the year.

A “bridge” is a computer protocol that allows two blockchains to interact with each other. The vast majority of blockchains operate in silos in isolated environments: each has its own rules, mechanisms and assets, which are often incompatible with other blockchains. The proliferation of blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Polygon …) and the lack of interoperability between them make it necessary to have these bridges, which allow a “dialogue” between blockchains.
