How to trade Forex on Mac OS

Do you have a Mac? Do you want to trade Forex? No chance! Mac users hoping to use the popular trading software have long faced frustrating compatibility issues … until now.

The popularization of forex trading over the past decade has been something to keep an eye on. Forex (FX) is now the largest financial market in the world, with an average daily trading volume of over $ 5 trillion. Its popularity can be attributed to a number of factors: its volatility, high liquidity, the promise of tax-free profits, and the valuation potential of leveraged trading.

Another important factor was accessibility. The doors of the Forex market were opened for non-professional traders years ago. The trading platforms have managed to provide a smooth and easy Forex trading experience within the reach of beginners. Everyone wants to learn how to invest in Forex.

Yet, in the midst of this Forex boom, Mac users have felt left out.

The problem ? The best and most popular trading platforms have been developed for Windows operating systems. Mac users who wanted to take advantage of Forex trading software such as MetaTrader were therefore faced with a difficult choice: use Wine to run a native Windows platform such as MetaTrader on their Mac (which usually leads to bugs and poor performance), buy a PC for Forex trading or just giving up on the software.

I. Why MT4?

MetaTrader 4 (widely known as MT4) has been around for years but remains the trading platform par excellence, whether you are a beginner or a veteran of trading. If you are interested in Forex trading and other financial instruments such as CFDs, Futures, Indices, Commodities and Cryptocurrencies, MT4 is well established as a standard platform despite MetaQuotes launching MetaTrader 5 in 2010.

Certain features of MT4 have become almost intrinsic to the Forex trading experience, including the Expert Advisor (EA) feature which allows you to set up algorithmic trading programs to monitor the Forex markets. As a result, MT4 is the preferred platform of most brokers, so you are pretty sure to come across it if you enter the Forex market at any level.

In summary: there are other Forex trading platforms, but there are many compelling reasons why MT4 remains the gold standard.

II. MT4 on your Mac

Some well-known brokers, such as IG, promote MetaTrader 4 as their preferred trading platform but don’t offer Mac users anything better than a Wine-based solution which they admit may be unstable. Fortunately, some brokers, who have belatedly realized the value of offering Mac users easy access to the standard Forex trading platform, now offer native MT4 solutions for Mac users without the hassle of virtual machines.

Currently, XM and Admiral Markets offer native MT4 for Mac, which could be a game changer if you’re a Mac user who doesn’t feel like scrambling to take advantage of a standard trading platform.
